Lexmark 84 error code

Imaging unit service-life warning

Lexmark code 84 means that the imaging unit (photoconductor) is approaching or has reached the end of its service life. The printer may continue printing for a while, but quality deteriorates.

What does this error mean?

The imaging unit is a supply that wears out: this code indicates scheduled replacement rather than a breakdown. On a rented printer, it is worth scheduling replacement for the next service visit before poor quality leads to complaints.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Order the correct imaging unit for the printer and schedule its replacement.
  2. 02If print quality is still good, the printer can typically remain in use until the replacement arrives.

When should you call a technician?

If the message remains after replacement or quality suddenly deteriorates, call a technician.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
