Paper pathWarning

Xerox 077-900 error code

Paper jam (paper left in the path)

Xerox 077-900 usually indicates a paper jam: a sensor detects paper in the paper path, typically because a sheet or scrap has been left inside. The 077-9xx family relates to paper jams.

What does this error mean?

If the code appears even when the printer seems empty, a small piece of paper has almost certainly been left near a sensor. It is worth checking all doors and the duplex path as well.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Open the doors and covers and carefully remove all jammed paper from the paper path, including small scraps. The area around the fuser may be hot; wait a few minutes there.
  2. 02Also check the duplex (two-sided printing) path and the area behind the trays: small scraps often hide there.
  3. 03Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.

When should you call a technician?

If you cannot find any paper and the code remains, call a technician: a sensor may be stuck or faulty.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
