Xerox 016-781 error code

Network connection fault (scanning or job processing)

Xerox 016-781 usually means that the printer cannot reach a network destination, typically a file server or shared folder during scanning. This is a connection problem rather than a printer hardware fault.

What does this error mean?

Changes to network settings are the most common cause: a changed password, renamed share, switched-off server or firewall. The exact meaning can vary by printer family, but it points towards the network.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Check that the network cable is connected and that the printer receives an IP address.
  2. 02Check whether the scan destination folder or server is accessible from a computer and whether the password has changed.
  3. 03Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.

When should you call a technician?

If the network is working and the fault remains, ask an IT administrator or technician to review the printer’s network settings.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
