Sharp F2-40 error code

Toner concentration sensor fault

Sharp F2-40 usually indicates a toner concentration sensor fault: the sensor output is outside the permitted range. This code stops the printer and relates to the toner system.

What does this error mean?

The printer measures toner concentration in the developer and adjusts replenishment accordingly. An invalid sensor signal prevents it from maintaining print quality, so the printer stops. An incorrectly inserted cartridge can also trigger the fault.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Remove and reinsert the toner cartridge to make sure it is properly seated.
  2. 02Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.

When should you call a technician?

If the code returns, call a technician: the sensor and developer unit need to be checked.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
