Canon E602 error code

Hard drive (HDD) fault

Canon E602 usually indicates a fault in the device’s hard drive or storage: the controller cannot read from or write to the drive. The subcode points to the exact cause.

What does this error mean?

Larger Canon printers store jobs and the system on a hard drive. E602 can be temporary, such as a file system fault after a power cut, but it can also indicate a failing drive.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait at least 10 minutes for the fuser to cool down, then switch it back on. Many error codes are temporary and disappear after a full power cycle.
  2. 02If the printer reported the fault after a power cut or sudden shutdown, restarting often resolves it.

When should you call a technician?

If the code returns, call a technician: the drive needs checking, formatting or replacement, which may also affect stored jobs.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
